Read 2 Dogs
Read 2 dogs is a programme that is designed to give opportunities to increase children’s confidence and enjoyment of reading. Every Wednesday, Harvey the adorable chocolate Labrador, comes to Goodrich with his owner Lucy.
Harvey sits on his blanket whilst a group of children sit around him on comfy bean bags and cushions and read to him. At the moment a group of Year 6 children are reading Holes by Louis Sachar. The children take it in turns to say hello and pat Harvey before they read.
At the end of the session they like to give him a doggie treat! Reading in this calm environment, with a non judgemental listener helps the children relax and feel more comfortable with reading aloud. This has an impact on how they feel about reading and helps enhance their literacy skills.
