Admissions & School Visits

Visiting the School

We welcome parents and carers on our monthly tours of Goodrich School. The tours are led by one of our teaching staff who share their knowledge of the school and answer any questions.

We visit classrooms and talk to children which we hope will help you get a really good feel of our school during the working day.

Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times. Tours start promptly at 9.30am and last approximately 45 minutes.

Just email us at office@goodrich.southwark.sch.uk or call us on 0208 693 1050 to book in on one of our tours.

We look forward to meeting you.

Admissions

Children are admitted to the school according to the guidelines laid down by Southwark Education Authority. For more information please visit the Southwark School Admissions website.

The admissions criteria we follow for Nursery are:

  • Children in public care (looked after children)
  • Children with educational, medical or social needs where professional advice indicates that placement would be beneficial; this includes children with a statement of special educational needs which names the nursery class
  • Children who have a brother or sister attending the school at the time of entry
  • Children for whom it is their nearest nursery class or nursery school
  • Age - in order to maintain a balance of children of 3 and 4 years old

Goodrich Nursery

The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS)

  • sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well

  • ensures children are kept healthy and safe

  • ensures that children have the knowledge and skills they need to start school

In the UK, all children aged 3 and 4 are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery funding a week. This national funding scheme at Goodrich nursery is taken over 5 morning or afternoon sessions from Monday to Friday 12.40-3.40.

At Goodrich we aim to provide children with the best start to their learning journey. This is done through well planned activities based on observations and the children’s interests.

Staff  create a stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors where children can lead their own learning, challenge themselves and take risks. Ensuring children feel safe and secure, promoting independence at all times.

Your child can begin nursery the term after their 3rd birthday.

If their birthday falls between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014 and you are interested in taking up a place with us, please contact the school office or fill in the online application.

Reception and Year 1 to Year 6

Admissions is carried out by Southwark Education Authority only. Parents must apply through Southwark Admissions on 020 7525 5337. Alternatively, applications can be made online at www.southwark.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

If a child is refused a place parents may appeal against the decision. The Appeals Committee is an independent tribunal set up to examine each case to see if the particular circumstances warrant the place above maximum numbers set for the school. Further information on the appeals procedure is available from the school.

As far as the school itself is concerned, all prospective parents are encouraged to visit the school for one of our pre-arranged tours, which take place on alternate Mondays.  We firmly believe that good education can best be achieved when parents, teachers and children work together for common aims.  Parents must satisfy themselves that the school is providing what they expect and that their child will be happy.  The best way of checking that this school will meet your needs is to visit and see for yourself.

If you wish to visit the school please call in at the office to arrange a place on a Thursday tour (or telephone 020 8693 1050).
