Design and Technology

At Goodrich this subject combines the intellectual with the practical. Imaginatively and creatively, new ideas are conceived, considered and realised. Pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts, drawing on a wide range of subject knowledge in disciplines such as science, mathematics, computing and art.

Design and Technology also develops pupils' cognitive skills. Thinking is directed to action and to a product which is then evaluated, so that pupils can reflect on the ways they have been thinking. This can make a difference throughout the curriculum, the school and the wider community.

DT teaches children to design something they could make and to make what they have designed, with an end product that is useful both to themselves and to other people.
