Goodrich Primary School SEN information report

At Goodrich we believe that all children are entitled to an exciting and stimulating curriculum, which is resourced and differentiated according to need. It is the shared responsibility of everyone in the school to ensure that every child has access to the curriculum and to ensure that every child’s needs are met. The school, in partnership with parents, carers and outside agencies, work together to ensure pupils achieve their potential and have experiences that allow them to collaborate, communicate and learn. Our staff are committed to inclusive education and their professional development includes supporting children with special educational needs. Our school provides a safe environment for children of all needs, including behavioural, emotional, learning and physical.

Children with recognised additional needs are well supported by the school and intervention programmes are used with targeted children to help them to catch up e.g. maths intervention, phonics intervention and speech and language interventions as well as support in accessing the curriculum.

Children with SEND are supported through targeted use of resources such as learning support assistants in class and intervention programmes which are tailored to suit children’s needs. Where additional support from other agencies is required, parents are fully involved in this process from the beginning. Multi-agency meetings may be held to establish a programme for how the school and outside agencies can best support a child with particular needs

Clear systems for assessment and evaluating the effectiveness of provision mean that pupils needs are quickly identified on entry to school. Children with additional needs are quickly assessed and staff resources are deployed to support pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged. Provision is regularly reviewed and adjusted according to need.

For children in year one or above, but not yet operating within expected levels for their year group, a ‘pre key stage’ assessment tool is used to track their progress in more detail.

The emphasis is on quality first teaching with a focus on modelling, questioning, assessment, marking and feedback to maximise outcomes for SEND children.

Disability

Disabled Access Statement.

Goodrich School is committed to providing a fully accessible environment which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their educational, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. We are committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.

The school recognises that many of its students, visitors and staff, whether disabled or otherwise, have individual needs when using school facilities. We recognise that for all pupils, the nature of their disabilities may mean that they experience specific difficulties related to accessing education, and the physical environment. As part of the ongoing commitment to the delivery of an inclusive educational service, we will endeavour to ensure that all our pupils receive a high standard of education.
