Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.  The amount received is dependent on the number of children who are eligible and have claimed for free school meals at any time in the last six years (this categorisation changed in 2012).  All schools are required to report on the amount of funding and how this is being used.

It’s allocated for schools to:

  • improve the academic outcomes of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities

  • close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers across the country

You can find further information about the pupil premium in Pupil Premium Frequently Asked Questions.

Pupil Premium is an important payment for schools and a really good opportunity for eligible parents to get even more support for their children in schools.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about Pupil Premium funding and how it is being used to benefit your child, please speak to the school office

If you think your child may possibly be eligible for free school meals, even if you don't want your child to eat school meals, please call into the office to collect a claim form or click the links below.  Every child who is eligible generates valuable income for the school.

Applying for Pupil Premium

We encourage parents and carers to consider the application for Pupil Premium. There are four elements to pupil premium:

Any qualifying family that registers their eligibility (based on the free school meal criteria) will help raise pupil premium money for the school. For 2021-22, the additional funding will be £1,345 for a primary school, for each registered child.

If you are deemed to be eligible, please can you inform the school so we can amend your details.

Please see the School Documents below that outline our Strategy Statements from our use of Pupil Premium Grants.

We are committed to supporting improved outcomes for our disadvantaged pupils. In order to help our disadvantaged pupils overcome their barriers to learning and be happy and successful at Goodrich and in their future lives, our ultimate goal is to catch up on lost learning for all children due to the pandemic, and to address the differences in outcomes between disadvantaged children and other pupils nationally with similar starting points.

Our key intent is to raise standards in reading (including phonics). Our PP learners are often EAL or NTE and have a language deficit so we are focusing on speaking and  listening. This impacts all areas of their learning. By raising reading standards, we aim to improve all outcomes across the curriculum.

Our Pupil Premium Plan aims to address the main barriers our children face and through rigorous tracking, careful planning and targeted support and intervention, provide all children the access and opportunities to enjoy academic success.
