Welcome to the School Council page!

School Council meets regularly to discuss current issues at our school. All our representatives work hard to ensure that pupil voice is truly represented at Goodrich. Each pair from years 3-6 coordinates seamlessly between their own class and School Council. Pupil Voice impacted on many key agendas at Goodrich last term. Pupils have discussed the organisation of our playground, teaching & learning and opportunities to raise money and impact on the wider community in East Dulwich.

Projects

What we’re working on  – As well as ongoing discussions in our meetings about improvements to our school such as more playground equipment and changes to the school lunch menu, the school council have been busy carrying out an eco-review to see how environmentally friendly we are. Our two main areas of focus are Energy and Waste. We kicked off our first half term looking at the power we use in school and are busy organising a no power hour for next half term. All classes will be prohibited from using electricity for one hour which means no Ipads, no interactive whiteboards and no lights! Our aim is to save as much energy as possible to look after our planet so we will be doing this regularly and if you’re really keen, you could try this at home too!

Sustainability is an important issue for us at Goodrich Community Primary School. Through our curriculum, assemblies and visitors into school, we aim to raise further awareness of the effects of climate change and the need to protect our environment. We work together to place sustainability at the heart of everything we do.

Our 5 key areas of focus are:

  1. Energy,

  2. Air & Sustainable Travel,

  3. Reduce-Re-use-Recycle,

  4. indoor & Outdoor Greens and

  5. Fundraising.

School council work with their classes to generate ideas to make our lives healthier, more sustainable and ‘greener’.

School Council has been busy helping with the following activities:

  • Ensuring the school is recycling effectively at all times

  • Reducing the use of energy in the school

  • Increasing awareness about waste reduction, littering and recycling

  • Taking active part in a project to encourage walking to school

  • Engaging and learning about the importance of our natural environment and about the dangers of climate change for future generations.
